How Many Students Have Remained in the Same Grade in Armenia?

Last year, 654 students remained in the same grade.

Currently, there are numerous issues related to grade retention in public schools. The first problem is the negative attitude of students and teachers towards children who are retained.

Oragir.News sent a written inquiry to the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport to determine how many students were retained in Armenia last year. In response to the inquiry, the ministry stated, “In the 2022-2023 academic year, there were 789 retained students, while in the 2023-2024 academic year, there are 654 retained students.”

Regarding the question of what impact grade retention has on the quality of education, it remains unclear whether there is any significant change in quality associated with it.

It is worth noting that many European countries do not have retained students, based on humanitarian principles.
