The Ball Has Long Been in Azerbaijan's Court: Simonian

The President of the National Assembly, Alen Simonian, stated that a peace agreement could be concluded today if there is political will from Azerbaijan. "Armenia is interested in signing a peace agreement, and we will work to make it a reality," Simonian said in a conversation with journalists.

According to him, if political will exists, there are no issues preventing the signing of the agreement with agreed provisions today. The National Assembly President noted that Azerbaijan could delay the signing of the peace treaty for various reasons.

"I consider it an ungrateful task to comment, because I cannot say the main reason. If Azerbaijan truly has no territorial claims, if the leadership of Azerbaijan truly wants peace in the region, then the ball has long been in Azerbaijan's court. We are waiting for an official response from Baku regarding where and how we will sign the peace agreement," he stated.

Simon testified that various partners are offering platforms for negotiations. According to him, this is a "message" that the international community is waiting. "I want the Azerbaijani side to listen to us more and understand more than they perhaps wish to," Simonian pointed out.
