Justice Minister Resigns

The Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia, Grigor Minasian, announced his resignation on his social media page, stating: “Today, I decided to join the petition against my own tenure. I submitted my resignation to the Prime Minister. In a parliamentary governance system, it will be challenging to hold the ministerial position if you have no positive collaboration with even one member of parliament.

I have learned that I have a problem with about two dozen deputies from the 'Civil Contract' faction. I am immensely grateful and will always fondly remember all the other deputies who received me with kindness and support, all my fellow colleagues in the government who have become friends, and of course, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who provided me with this great opportunity.

Together with them and with their help, we have accomplished a lot in the past two years in terms of reforms in the justice sector. The government program has certainly been executed beyond expectations in terms of the quantity and quality of measures.

The roads and schools built are immediately seen and enjoyed by the people, but the results of the new arbitration system, the reformed compulsory enforcement service, the digitized civil proceedings, the established probation service, and many other reforms or hundreds of legislative and strategic changes will be enjoyed by us all after some time.

People have always expected swift and immediate restoration of justice from justice ministers. That is not the minister's function. It is reserved for law enforcement and the courts. We are the policy makers and the ones improving the institutional system. A lot has already been done in both directions. The fruits will come soon, but already during the next ministers’ tenure.

Of course, it would have been possible to be more patient, to stay and fight for all of this, and to continue calmly presenting the vast work accomplished, but I decided to return to a more familiar environment. One can also contribute to the justice sector in the private sector.
