The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Issues a Statement

One year ago, on September 19, as a result of Azerbaijan's military offensive, the entire indigenous population of Nagorno-Karabakh—over 115,000 Armenians—was forced to flee their homes within a few days. This displacement, which marked the final phase of an ethnic cleansing policy, occurred during the session of the UN General Assembly when the international community was once again discussing the imperative of peaceful conflict resolution, establishment of stability, and development, condemning the use of force and violations of international norms and human rights across various corners of the world. This was stated in a press release by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia.

“Over the past year, with the support of international partners, the Armenian government has taken all necessary steps to address the immediate and mid-term needs of the displaced Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as to develop long-term programs that are essential for the future. Next week, high-level discussions at the UN General Assembly will resume in New York. The events of the past year highlight the urgent need for efforts to ensure international stability and the importance of bringing to life ideas and actions that can foster peace,” the statement noted.

The position of the Republic of Armenia on ensuring stability in the South Caucasus is clear: the swift establishment of peace and relationships based on respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, and a vision of sustainable development, effective connectivity, and ensuring prosperity in the region. In order not to miss the current opportunity to implement this vision and to create a more stable and dignified environment for future generations, we expect other stakeholders in this matter to demonstrate the necessary political will and commitment to the agenda of peace,” the statement concluded.
