Armenians Must Return Safely to Nagorno-Karabakh: French MP's Call to COP29 Participants
In a recent speech during a plenary session of the European Parliament, French MP Nathalie Loiseau, a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee's Subcommittee on Security and Defense, addressed the Nagorno-Karabakh issue and Armenian-Azerbaijani relations.
“A year ago today, Azerbaijan carried out a military assault on Nagorno-Karabakh and forcibly displaced over 100,000 individuals, leaving a trace in history as the first ethnic cleansing of the 21st century. And a year later, no one has the opportunity to return home. Azerbaijan continues to hold prisoners from the previous conflict, and they too are unable to return home. The spiritual and cultural heritage of Nagorno-Karabakh is under threat, with numerous monuments already destroyed,” said Loiseau.
She emphasized that Azerbaijan has not signed a peace agreement with Armenia and will host the COP29 conference in a few weeks. “All those who visit Baku should consider it their moral duty to call for the safe return of Armenians to Nagorno-Karabakh and the release of captives. Our fight for the planet cannot be achieved at the expense of these people,” concluded the MEP.
