Lebanese Armenian MP on Pager Explosions
The events in Lebanon represent a crime against humanity. This statement was made by Lebanese parliament member Paula Yakoubian in an interview with Sputnik Armenia during the Global Armenian Second Summit held in Yerevan, addressing the recent cyber attack in her country.
On September 17, a mass explosion of pagers occurred in Beirut and surrounding regions, resulting in the death of 12 individuals, with more than 2,800 others injured, according to the latest reports. The country's authorities have placed the responsibility for the incident on Israel.
Regarding Israel, Yakoubian emphasized that a civilized, democratic country has effectively transformed into a terrorist state. “This is not just about targeting Hezbollah, but also about targeting technology, science, artificial intelligence, and communication methods in general,” the MP stated.
According to her, the attack forced a reevaluation of the safety and security of our mobile phones, a concern that was not previously present. Such a cyberattack is unprecedented and poses a grave danger to the future of humanity.
“I don’t know how they did it, but I know they must be held accountable and condemned,” said the Lebanese-Armenian parliament member.
