Andranik Kocharyan Addresses Attempts to Usurp Power in Armenia
Armenia's internal and external enemies continue to seek various ways to regain their former power, including by using terrorist tactics. This was stated by Andranik Kocharyan, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Defense and Security of the National Assembly of Armenia, during a panel discussion organized within the framework of the 2nd Global Armenian Summit.
He made the statement while referring to the report released by the Investigative Committee on September 18 regarding the prevention of an attempt to usurp power in Armenia. "The operation was thwarted in its preparatory phase. As a result of reforms, our structures, which are quite equipped and prepared, are now capable of carrying out actions that will prevent any similar actions against our country in the future. Of course, this is an exceptional example that we should be happy about, but we must not relax, because internal and external enemies seem to be searching hand in hand for various ways to regain lost power, not shying away from the possibility of using terrorist means," Kocharyan noted.
Kocharyan emphasized the significant engineering works that have been carried out at Armenia's borders over the past year and a half. Speaking at the panel discussion on the theme 'National Security of Armenia: Current Developments' as part of the Second Global Armenian Summit, he assured that as a result of fortification works, by 2026, the entire length of Armenia's borders will be wrapped in fortresses, where soldiers will be better protected.
"The soldier will enter into the decision-making process regarding our country's defense with confidence, being protected from the air, capable of counterattacking from the front, and also being shielded from the rear," Kocharyan stated. He characterized the increase in government expenditures directed towards the development of the defense and security sectors in the state budget as unimaginably greater compared to previous years.
