A Soldier Charged with Causing Severe Injury to a Comrade

A soldier has been charged with causing severe bodily harm to a fellow serviceman due to negligence after a shot was fired from a weapon. This was reported by the Investigative Committee of Armenia.

The Investigative Committee of Armenia informed that on September 15, 2024, around 18:45, during the process of loading a weapon, a conscript soldier from a military unit of the Ministry of Defense accidentally discharged a shot from a rifle, resulting in a gunshot wound to the back of the head of a fellow conscript.

Following the incident, a criminal case was initiated in the 3rd Investigative Division of the Military Investigative Main Department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia. Following extensive evidential and procedural actions, including witness interrogations, the aforementioned soldier has been charged under the 1st point of the 2nd part of Article 532 of the RA Criminal Code, which concerns violations of rules regarding the handling of weapons, ammunition, military equipment, or other military property, resulting in severe damage to human health due to negligence.

The accused has fully admitted guilt and provided a confession. Military supervision has been chosen as a preventive measure against the accused. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.

Notice: The accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court's legally binding judgment in accordance with the rules established by the RA Criminal Procedure Code.
