School Principal Clarifies Details About 10-Year-Old Girl in Coma

A 10-year-old girl who has been in a coma for the fifth day likely fell from a stairwell due to negligence. This was stated by Nona Andreasian, the principal of a school in Vedi, Ararat Province, in an interview with Sputnik Armenia.

The incident occurred during class time in the corridor when the child asked the teacher if she could leave to go to the restroom, but she did not return. "It was during the fifth class hour; I was in the corridor with the vice principal when a child ran up to us and said that Elen had fallen. We immediately went to the scene, and the child was lying at the bottom of the stairs. For a moment, she opened her eyes; I asked her if she could hear me, and she nodded yes, but then she suddenly became unresponsive," said the principal.

Meanwhile, the school had also called an ambulance and notified the girl's parents. She was transported to the medical center in Vedi and then to the St. Astvatsamayr Medical Center in Yerevan.

Later, the principal tried to clarify what had happened. She questioned the students present at the time, and the ninth-grade boys who were there said they saw the girl falling after exiting the restroom. "The teacher usually didn't let that girl go alone. She had been very calm that day, behaving normally, and the teacher allowed her to go out. We suspect she heard some noise from below, leaned over to look, lost her balance, and fell. At that moment, there were no students above," the principal explained.

She also informed that a psychologist is working with Elen, who sometimes displays aggressive behavior but is not registered as a child needing special educational conditions.
