Tense Situation Near 'Zovq' Supermarket
Today, on September 17, a tense situation has developed in the Kotayk region. Employees of the 'Zovq' supermarket and several nearby shops, along with residents of Verni Ptghni, have blocked the road adjacent to the former 'Gayi Post' known to the public on the Yerevan-Sevan highway as a protest, reports Shamshyan.com.
The workers from these establishments and the village residents are demanding a clear response from the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure regarding the decision about placing iron barriers on this stretch of the road, which they claim primarily hinders their access.
“We have been trying to get this answer for several days, but no one is providing a clear response. Just a moment ago, we learned that the 'Road Department' has arrived with special equipment and is beginning their work. The exit route for people from the village is also being blocked, and we don’t know how people will pass,” one of the protesters stated.
A scuffle occurred between citizens and police, and as a form of peaceful civil disobedience and protest, the demonstrators blocked the road. The police forcibly removed everyone from the road, and according to the gathered citizens, several individuals were taken into custody by the Kotayk police department.
