Lebanon Fires Around 50 Shells at Israeli Army
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that as of Sunday morning, approximately 50 shells were fired from Lebanese territory towards northern regions of Israel. Some of the shells were intercepted by air defense systems, while there are no reports on potential consequences from the shelling, according to the military's press service.
“In the Upper Galilee region, around thirty shells fired from Lebanon were recorded. The IDF successfully intercepted several shells, while the remaining ones fell in open areas. In the Kiryat Shmona area, around twenty shells fired from Lebanon were reported. The majority of the shells were intercepted,” the IDF stated in a message posted on their Telegram channel.
The situation along the Israel-Lebanon border has escalated since the beginning of Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip in October 2023. The Israeli army and fighters from the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah have been shelling each other's positions daily along the border.
According to the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, nearly 100,000 people have been forced to leave their homes in southern Lebanon due to Israeli shelling. The Israeli side reported that around 80,000 residents in northern Israel are currently in a similar situation.
