Armenian Government Approves Regulations for Joint Demarcation Commissions with Azerbaijan
The Armenian government has approved the regulations for joint work of the demarcation commissions with Azerbaijan. On August 30, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia announced that Armenia and Azerbaijan had signed the regulations for the joint activities of the demarcation and delimitation commissions.
According to the document, Yerevan and Baku have agreed to carry out the demarcation based on the 1991 Almaty Declaration, though this agreement is not final. The regulations state that the process may proceed under different principles after the adoption of a peace agreement.
"If in the future the agreement on the establishment of peace and interstate relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan provides for other arrangements, then this fundamental principle will be aligned with the principles established by the aforementioned agreement," the document published by the Armenian government today states.
The regulations consist of 7 articles, mainly containing technical details related to the process and general formulations. For example, Article 4 discusses the possibility of optimizing the border.
It should be noted that the press service of the Armenian government had previously reported that the demarcation commissions of Armenia and Azerbaijan had exchanged drafts of the regulations for their joint work.
