A New Method of Fraudulent Money Theft Discovered; Ministry of Internal Affairs Issues Warning
Recently, a new method of fraudulent money theft has been recorded in Yerevan. Unknown individuals have been calling city telephone numbers, claiming that a relative located in another country has allegedly been involved in an accident or has caused someone to be hit, and urgent money transfer is needed for treatment.
Following these calls, individuals have visited the homes of the affected citizens and fraudulently taken money from them. According to reports received by the police, citizens have been swindled out of amounts including $16,000, $20,000, and $30,000.
From July 27 to the present day, there have been 143 cases of fraud committed using this method recorded in Yerevan. The Ministry of Internal Affairs warns and urges citizens not to trust information received from strangers and to verify the reliability of such claims with friends or relatives. In case of suspicious calls, it is advised to contact the police immediately at the phone number 1-02.
