Our Political Principle is the Following: Pashinyan

During a consultation led by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, the main provisions of the draft law on "Higher Education and Science" were discussed. The Chairman of the Committee on Higher Education and Science, Sargis Hayotsyan, presented the key points of the draft, noting that new quality control standards for licensing and accreditation will be established. The vertical model of university management will be replaced by a horizontal model, where there will be practically independent management and regulatory circles. Separate articles of the law will establish the framework for regulations concerning the Academic City, among other things.

Regarding scientific organizations and the National Academy of Sciences, it was indicated that the proposed new regulations will allow the Academy to operate as a foundation governed by the principle of autonomy. The discussion encompassed new conditions for licensing, accreditation of educational programs of universities, and mechanisms for financing universities, with various proposals presented.

Within the framework of the state program for the development of education, the Prime Minister emphasized that one of the most important principles is that students who show certain progress should not be expelled from university due to financial issues. “Our political principle is the following: social discrimination in education should be excluded,” added Nikol Pashinyan.

The Prime Minister thanked the participants for the productive discussion and instructed that the presented proposals be incorporated into the draft, after which it will be submitted for public discussion.
