Emmanuel Macron on the Arrest of Pavel Durov
The founder of Telegram, Pavel Durov's arrest is not a political decision; the entrepreneur has been detained within the framework of a judicial investigation, stated French President Emmanuel Macron.
“I am reading false information about France following Pavel Durov's arrest. France is more than ever committed to freedom of speech and communication, innovation, and entrepreneurship. This will not change,” he wrote on the social network X.
“In a context of the rule of law, freedoms in social networks, just as in real life, are exercised within the framework established by law to protect citizens and respect their fundamental rights. The arrest of the Telegram chief in France took place within the ongoing judicial investigation. This is by no means a political decision. The decision remains with the judges,” he added.
It is noted that Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, was arrested after being brought from the Le Bourget airport in Paris. Durov arrived in France from Baku on a private jet.
