Washington to Send $125 Million New Military Aid Package to Kyiv: AP
The Biden administration will send a new military aid package worth $125 million to Ukraine. This was reported by the Associated Press (AP), citing sources from the White House.
The package will include missiles for air defense systems, ammunition for HIMARS multiple rocket launcher systems, portable anti-tank Javelin systems, and other equipment, counter-drone systems, and 155 mm and 105 mm caliber artillery ammunition, vehicles, and other supplies, the agency states.
AP emphasizes that the delivery is timely as Washington works to better understand Russia's invasion of Kyiv.
Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh announced during a briefing that the U.S. still has questions regarding Ukraine's objectives and challenges in Russia's Kursk region despite Kyiv's explanations. "As for the objectives, I will tell you what (Ukrainian President) Zelensky announced a few days ago: it is the creation of a buffer zone. There are questions regarding that," Singh stated.
According to her, U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin intends to discuss all these questions with Ukraine's Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.
On August 6, Ukrainian forces invaded Russia's Kursk region. According to Ukrainian sources, they have control over 92 settlements and an area of 1,259 square kilometers.
Russian forces have also reported advancements near the town of Pokrovsk in eastern Ukraine.
