90% of Gaza's Population Displaced, UN Reports
Nearly 90% of the population in the Gaza Strip has been displaced since the onset of Israeli military operations in October 2023. This is reported by the Palestinian news agency WAFA, citing the office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
According to the statement, shelters are overcrowded, contaminated, and unsafe. People are deprived of medical facilities, clean water supplies, and humanitarian provisions. A severe shortage of chlorine has made water disinfection impossible, leading to the spread of various diseases.
The agency reports that, according to the information from Gaza's health authorities, over 133,000 Palestinians have been affected since the beginning of the Israeli assaults, including those killed and injured, the majority being women and children. Additionally, more than 10,000 people remain missing.
The conflict in the Gaza Strip escalated following an attack by Hamas, resulting in 1,200 fatalities in Israel and approximately 250 abductions. In response to Israeli military operations, the death toll in Gaza has exceeded 40,200.
