Suspect Arrested for Mother's Murder; Investigative Committee Provides Details

The investigation into the murder of a 65-year-old woman in an apartment on Bagratuniats Street in Yerevan, which occurred days ago, continues. This information has been reported by the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia.

As previously reported, the incident took place on August 15, 2024. An investigative operational group that arrived at the scene discovered the body of the 65-year-old woman with multiple stab and cut wounds.

In the framework of the criminal case initiated on the grounds of murder by the Investigative Division of the Shengavit Administrative District of Yerevan, a forensic examination of the body has been appointed, and several individuals, including neighbors and family members of the victim, have been questioned. Additionally, the memory storage device of the building's surveillance camera has been seized and examined.

As a result of investigative and evidential actions undertaken and effective operational-search measures carried out by police officers, it was established that the victim suffered life-threatening injuries inflicted by her 25-year-old son. Specifically, on August 15, 2024, at approximately 9:30 AM, intending to unlawfully take his mother's life, he approached the building where he and his family resided on Bagratuniats Street in Yerevan. After surveying the area and selecting a favorable moment to carry out his planned crime, he entered the apartment. There, with the intention of unlawfully taking his mother's life, he inflicted multiple stab wounds to various parts of her body with a knife, severing her neck, and subsequently left the knife, which was the instrument of the crime, on a shelf in the apartment's corridor, fleeing the scene around 9:40 AM.

The following day, he was discovered by police officers and presented to the prosecuting body. Based on sufficient evidence gathered, public criminal charges have been filed against the 25-year-old under Article 155, Part 2, Clause 9 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. The investigator has submitted a motion to the court to impose detention as a preventive measure against the 25-year-old, which has been granted.

The investigation is ongoing. Measures are being taken to clarify all circumstances of the case, including verifying existing data related to the suspect's mental health, for which relevant information and medical documents have been requested from competent institutions.
