American TV Host Phil Donahue Passes Away
Mariam Z.
Phil Donahue, the renowned American television host, has died at the age of 88, reports The Washington Post.
Donahue was famous for his television bridges between the USSR and the USA, along with prominent hosts like Vladimir Pozner. The broadcasts of US-USSR television conferences aired with what was described as "Gorbachev's personal blessing." It was during one of those shows that it became apparent there was no sexual life in the USSR.
Together with Pozner, he co-hosted the "Pozner and Donahue Weekly Show" on CNBC until 1996. He visited Russia several times, with his last trip in 2019 to participate in Pozner's program on the First Channel.
