EU to Discuss Sanctions Against Israeli Government Officials: Borrell

The European Union (EU) will discuss the imposition of sanctions against members of the Israeli government following attacks on Palestinians by Israeli settlers in the village of Jit on the West Bank. This was stated by Josep Borrell, the head of the EU's diplomatic service, on the social platform X.

Borrell urged the Israeli government to halt the unacceptable violence that is being carried out "almost completely with impunity" and which "endangers peace efforts." On the evening of August 15, dozens of Israeli settlers attacked the village of Jit, setting homes and vehicles on fire, and throwing stones and Molotov cocktails at Palestinians. During the attacks, a 23-year-old Palestinian was killed.

Earlier, Borrell had indicated that the EU would consider sanctions against Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich due to their statements regarding the residents of Gaza.
