Former Arabkir Community Leader to be Transferred to Prison
The Court of Appeal has approved the Prosecutor General's complaint and has decided to transfer former Arabkir community leader Aram Azatyan from house arrest to prison. This information was confirmed to NEWS.am by Azatyan's lawyer, Artur Pivazyan.
“The court's decision was made yesterday, but we are not familiar with the grounds for the decision yet; Azatyan is still at home. We did not expect this decision. We are definitely preparing to appeal to the Supreme Court,” Pivazyan said.
It should be noted that the Investigative Committee had reported that the relevant criminal proceedings had been initiated and are being investigated under several articles of the Criminal Code, including Article 441 (abuse of power by an official) and related points regarding bribery and corruption. Eight individuals have been charged under various articles of the Criminal Code, including three officials from the Arabkir administrative district of Yerevan.
