Paris 2024: Arsen Harutyunyan Defeated in Quarterfinals
In the 33rd Summer Olympic Games held in Paris, on August 8, three-time world bronze medalist, four-time European champion, and two-time U23 world champion Arsen Harutyunyan (57 kg) did not overcome the hurdle in the second round.
In the quarterfinals, Harutyunyan faced Uzbek wrestler Gulomjon Abdullaev and lost with a score of 5:12.
In the first round, Arsen Harutyunyan first earned one point, then his opponent took the lead with a two-point throw. After adding two more points to his score, Abdullaev increased the tally to 6:3 with a four-point move.
In the second round, Abdullaev increased his lead to 10:3 with two rolls using a favorable grip. Harutyunyan responded with a counter-attack, throwing and rolling his opponent, making it 10:7 in favor of Abdullaev.
The Uzbek wrestler's corner challenged a call, and the referees agreed, deducting two points from Harutyunyan’s score. Before the end of the match, the Uzbek wrestler earned two additional points. The match concluded with Abdullaev’s victory, 12:5.
In the opening round of 1/8 finals, Harutyunyan had won against Mexico’s Roman Bravo-Yang with a score of 13:3.
