Paris 2024: Arthur Aleksanyan and Malekhas Amoyan to Compete Today
At the 33rd Summer Olympic Games taking place in Paris, the Armenian representatives in Greco-Roman wrestling are set to begin their competitions. On August 6, Arthur Aleksanyan (97 kg) and Malekhas Amoyan (77 kg) will step onto the mat as part of the Armenian Olympic team.
Arthur Aleksanyan, a gold, silver, and bronze medalist at the Olympic Games, a four-time world champion, and a seven-time European champion, will face off against South Korea's Sinjun Kim in the first 1/8 finals. Kim is a 2014 youth world championship silver medalist, a 2017 Asian championship silver medalist, a 2021 Asian championship silver medalist, and the winner of the 2024 Asia region Olympic qualifying tournament.
The match featuring Arthur Aleksanyan is scheduled for 13:00 Yerevan time on mat C, and it will be the third bout in that category.
Malekhas Amoyan, the world champion and three-time European champion, will contend with Joni Kunari Sarkkinin from Finland in the first 1/8 finals. Sarkkinin is the 2021 youth European champion, the 2022 U20 European silver medalist, and the 2023 U23 European champion, as well as the winner of the Olympic qualifying tournament held in Baku in 2024.
Malekhas Amoyan’s match is set to start at 13:00 Yerevan time on mat A, and it will be the sixth match in that bout.
The Olympic Greco-Roman wrestling tournament is being held at the Champ-de-Mars sports complex.
