The U.S. is Uncertain About the Nature of a Possible Retaliatory Strike: Blinken
The Iranian and Lebanese Hezbollah's attack on Israel could commence as early as August 5, stated U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken during a conference with G7 foreign ministers, as reported by Axios, citing three sources.
According to the publication, Blinken convened the conference to coordinate diplomatic pressure on Iran and Hezbollah in order to minimize their response to the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, head of Hamas's political bureau. The Secretary emphasized that limiting possible strikes is the "best opportunity to prevent war."
Moreover, the U.S. is uncertain about what form the retaliatory response will take. The exact timing of the attacks is also not known, but they could begin in the coming hours, Blinken added.
