The world number one tennis player Iga Swiatek has claimed the bronze medal at the Paris Olympic Games in singles competition. The Polish tennis star faced Slovakia's Anna Karolína Schmiedlová, ranked 67th in the world, and won the match with a score of 6:2, 6:1. The match lasted for one hour.

Iga Swiatek becomes the first Polish athlete to win a medal in tennis at the Olympic Games.

In the semifinals, she had suffered a stunning defeat to the world number seven, China's Zheng Qinwen.
