Zeekr Electric Vehicles Promised to Be Locked

Geely will remotely lock the electric vehicles of its subsidiary, the Zeekr brand. However, this will only apply to those that possess specific features for the domestic market of China, despite having been unofficially sold outside of the Middle Kingdom. The initiative will impact Russia, CIS countries, and the Middle East, specifically regions where vehicles have been delivered through 'gray' channels.

This information was reported by the Kazakh publication Tengri Auto, referencing a statement from Zeekr International, the brand's international operations division. It is reported that restrictions will take effect for vehicles produced after July 15, 2024. These will be tracked through unauthorized SIM cards according to Drom.ru.

The driver will receive two warnings through the vehicle's media system via the internet, indicating that the vehicle is outside the service area specified in the contract. If these messages are ignored, the second notification will disable the central screen and all control functions. It remains unclear how the lock can be removed or circumvented.
