Trump Claims Biden Was Pressured to Withdraw from Presidential Race
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump stated on Thursday that Democratic Party officials acted forcefully to compel President Joe Biden to withdraw from his reelection campaign. “I think it was some kind of political coup. They didn’t want him (Biden) to run. His numbers were bad in the polls, and they thought he would lose...” Trump said during an appearance on Fox News.
He noted that, according to his sources, many Democrats assured Biden that they supported him. “But I know that behind the scenes they were tough with him,” Trump added.
“I know a lot of people on the other side (from the Democrats). And I know they forced him out of the race. We’re talking about Pelosi (former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi), Obama (former President Barack Obama), and other people you see on television,” he continued.
On July 21, Biden announced that he was stepping away from the presidential race but would continue to serve in office. He urged the Democratic Party to nominate Vice President Kamala Harris as a candidate for president. Subsequently, she garnered enough delegate support to become the Democratic presidential candidate.
The Democratic National Committee has stated that it plans to nominate a presidential candidate by August 7. The U.S. presidential election is set for November 5, 2024.
