What to Expect Soon for 6 Detainees in the 36 kg Gold and 293 Million Ruble Case

«Zhoghvoroud» newspaper reports: “In the case of the disappearance of 36 kg of gold and 293 million Russian rubles, the detention periods for the 6 detainees are soon expiring, and essentially, the investigative body will either have to apply to extend the detention of the detainees or perhaps some of them may find freedom. One fact is clear: almost 4 months have passed since the high-profile incident, but the main actors are missing, and one key participant among the detainees is not providing testimony, while most of the stolen property is still unaccounted for. Meanwhile, law enforcement has been searching for them for 4 months, while the alleged criminals enjoy what they have acquired.

By the way, «Zhoghvoroud» newspaper had reported that a judge has also come under the investigators’ scrutiny. Specifically, within the framework of the criminal case, the Investigative Committee of Armenia has interrogated judge Arshak Petrosyan from the Yerevan City Court in the status of a witness.

Recall that the Investigative Committee of Armenia officially reported that on April 10, a car with the brand “Porsche” pursued a car of the brand “Hyundai Sonata,” and between 07:15 and 07:20, creating an artificial obstacle in front of the car on Myrakapatakan Street in the Parakhar community of the Armavir region, they stopped the mentioned vehicle by threatening with weapons through the front right window. After stopping, the individuals who committed the alleged crime, dressed in uniforms resembling those of the National Security Service of Armenia and masked, exited their vehicle and presented themselves as employees of the NSS, applying violence with weapons against the 3 individuals in the car, forcibly pulling them out of the vehicle under the pretext of searching for drugs and other prohibited items, placed handcuffs on them, and then stole 36 kg of gold bars of 999 purity and bags containing 293,000,000 Russian rubles from the vehicle. By using tear gas through the front door of the vehicle, they fled in the “Porsche” car.

Based on sufficient evidence obtained, A.S. has been charged under part 2 of Article 319, part 3 of Article 252, and part 1 of Article 456 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. In the framework of the criminal proceedings, criminal charges have been initiated against a total of 12 individuals, among whom detention measures have been applied to 5, while others have been subjected to different measures. A decision has been made to arrest 4 individuals, and the police have been tasked with locating them and presenting them to the conducting body. Incidentally, we had reported that in the criminal case, the father-in-law of a ‘thief by law’ has also come under the law enforcement’s scrutiny,” reports «Zhoghvoroud» newspaper.
