VIDEO: Geyser Erupts in Yellowstone National Park, USA
A powerful hydrothermal explosion has occurred in Yellowstone National Park, USA. Debris, including dirt and rock fragments, erupted from the geysers, and the steam has completely obscured the site of the explosion.
Preliminary reports indicate that there are no injuries. According to the park's press service, a section of the attraction known as Biscuit Basin has been temporarily closed to visitors following the geyser explosion. It will reopen when staff deems it safe.
The explosion has not affected the volcanic system. Yellowstone National Park is located across the states of Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. It is home to numerous geysers and other geothermal features, as well as North America's largest volcanic system, the Yellowstone caldera, formed 630,000 years ago as a result of an eruption.
