Trump Discusses Ukraine Conflict with Zelensky Over Phone

Former U.S. President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has revealed that he had a phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. He shared this news on his Truth Social platform.

“We had a very pleasant phone call with Ukrainian President Zelensky. He congratulated me on successfully holding the Republican National Convention and my candidacy,” Trump wrote.

Trump thanked Zelensky for the conversation, stating that “as your next president, I will end the Ukraine conflict and bring peace to the whole world.”

“Both sides will be able to unite and reach an agreement on a deal,” Trump declared. Zelensky also condemned the assassination attempt against the former president during the call, according to Trump.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Trump mentioned that he had a good relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He added that military operations between the countries would have been impossible during his presidency. The candidate also noted that he had considered easing sanctions against Russia as part of a conflict resolution plan for Ukraine.

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in turn, stated on July 17 that when Trump was U.S. president, nothing good was done for Russia, but there was nonetheless a dialogue between the countries, which can be viewed as a positive element.

On June 25, Reuters reported that two of Trump’s key advisers presented a conflict resolution plan for Ukraine. According to the initiative, Kyiv would continue to receive American weapons only if it entered into peaceful negotiations. Conversely, Moscow's refusal to negotiate would lead to a strengthening of American support for Ukraine. Trump reportedly responded positively to the plan, while the initiative was rejected in Kyiv. The Kremlin stated that they could not comment on Trump’s promise to end the Ukraine conflict since they were unaware of the essence of the proposal.
