Iran's Ambassador to Armenia Makes Remarkable Statements on the Return of Armenians to Artsakh

The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Armenia, Mehdi Sobhani, has made remarkably significant statements regarding the return of Armenians to Artsakh. In a Telegram post, Iranian studies expert Vardan Voskanyan wrote:

"The rights of the Armenian residents of Artsakh should be respected. This issue is akin to a wound, and that wound must be healed," he said in an exclusive interview with Azatutyun.

According to Ambassador Mehdi Sobhani, he essentially referred to a crucial statement made by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, during the last stages of the 44-day war in 2020, which emphasized that the security of the Armenians in Artsakh must be ensured—a point that unfortunately did not receive much attention.

It is extremely important that now Iran is advocating for the return of Armenians to their homeland in Artsakh and ensuring their security, without which achieving stable peace is impossible. There is no doubt that in the matter of returning Armenians to Artsakh, we have a powerful ally in Iran, which creates an additional opportunity to actively promote this issue.
