Anthony Blinken Suggests Potential Change in Strike Radius Against Russia
The U.S. Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, asserts that Ukraine can quickly meet the conditions for joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). "The timeline for joining NATO depends on the fulfillment of various requirements. But I am confident that what we have developed will help Ukraine reach that point rapidly," Blinken stated while commenting on the possible timelines for Kyiv's accession to the alliance during the Aspen Institute's annual conference on security issues.
The head of the foreign policy agency also confirmed that Washington will continue discussions with Kyiv regarding American weapons to strike deep into Russia and will adjust its position on this matter based on circumstances. "We changed our approach. We adapted. And I am confident that we will continue to act that way," Blinken said.
He essentially acknowledged the possibility that the depth of such strikes could increase. Russia is staunchly opposed to further NATO expansion eastward. The final document from the NATO summit held in Washington from July 9-11 notes that Ukraine is on an irreversible path to joining the alliance.
