New Details on Dog Attack on Citizens: 'I Saw the Dog Biting the Child, I Rushed to Save'

In the village of Voskahask in the Shirak region, four out of five citizens injured in a dog attack yesterday, July 16, have been discharged from the hospital after receiving outpatient medical care. This was reported to NEWS.am by Armen Khachatryan, Deputy Director of the 'Gyumri' Medical Center, noting that the five-year-old child who was the most severely affected has been transferred to the 'Wigmore' Medical Center in Yerevan.

“The victims sustained injuries in various parts of the body, mostly in the upper extremities,” he stated.

59-year-old Shirak N., a resident of Voskahask, said in an interview with the media that he has no information about the child's health condition. “I saw that the dog was biting the child, I rushed to save him,” he recounted.

The 'Wigmore' Medical Center has not disclosed any details about the child's condition, merely stating that the child is under the care of their doctors. According to the head of the Voskahask administrative district, the child underwent surgery.

Mushag Sahakyan, the head of the Voskahask administrative district, mentioned that the five-year-old child and his mother had gone to visit a relative. The incident occurred in the relative’s neighborhood. Sahakyan indicated that he is unaware of whose dog it was, stating, “I don’t even know if it had an owner.”

The Investigative Committee reported to the media that an investigation has been initiated under Article 167, Part 2 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to causing medium bodily harm. Forensic examinations have been appointed. “Preliminary data indicates that in the village of Voskahask, around 17:00, a dog was unleashed and attacked a five-year-old child, inflicting bodily injuries and biting. The child’s mother and neighbors tried to help, but the dog also attacked them, causing injuries,” said the Investigative Committee.
