Yerevan and Baku Must Make Difficult Compromises: State Department Spokesperson
Armenia and Azerbaijan have made significant progress and come a long way in the matter of signing a peace treaty. This was stated by U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller during a briefing in response to a question regarding the Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiations.
"The peace treaty between the two countries will be very significant for those countries. It will have great importance for the region, peace, stability, and security in the region. We really believe that an agreement is possible, but it requires both sides to make difficult choices and go for tough compromises," he announced.
He noted that the parties have recorded progress in Washington but declined to provide further details. "We do not have an agreement yet, but we are not going to rest until we achieve it," Miller concluded.
It is worth reminding that as a result of the trilateral meeting held in Washington, the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the progress made by Yerevan and Baku regarding the signing of a historic peace treaty and the establishment of interstate relations. Both republics have expressed readiness to continue work in this direction.
