Authorities Do Not Provide Coordinates for Border Pillars Installed in Tavush: Sputnik

The office of Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan has not provided the coordinates for the border pillars installed in Tavush. Sputnik Armenia had sent a request to the Armenian government back in May, asking for those coordinates. The inquiry was rerouted to the office of Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan, where it was indicated that work is still ongoing, and a response would be provided later.

"A complete response to the information you requested can be provided only after the relevant work is completed," read the response.

On July 1, the media sent a new request to Grigoryan's office asking for the coordinates and inquiring about the status of the agreement process regarding the joint activities of the delimitation commissions, which was supposed to be finalized by July 1 (the regulations were never adopted).

Despite the deadline for responding to the request passing, the media outlet has not received a reply. Attempts to obtain verbal clarifications from the office during this period have also been unsuccessful.

It should be noted that on July 1, the press service of the Armenian government reported that the delimitation commissions of Armenia and Azerbaijan have exchanged drafts of joint working regulations.

Recall that the delimitation commissions for Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed to begin the delimitation process from the Tavush region on April 19. The office of the Prime Minister of Armenia announced that, as a result, Azerbaijan will gain 2.5 villages, while the Republic of Armenia will reduce security risks. Following the delimitation, armed forces will withdraw from four villages and cede their positions to border guard troops.

On May 15, the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the delimitation commissions of Armenia and Azerbaijan had reached new agreements. The office of the Prime Minister clarified that, according to those agreements, issues regarding the relocation of the road in Kiran will arise, and government representatives will inventory potential problems to compensate citizens for damages incurred.

On May 24, the Armenian National Security Service announced that the border guard troops of the National Security Service would officially take over the protection of the 1.9 km segment of the Berkaber village and the 4.9 km segments of the Voskepar and Baghanis villages in Tavush.
