World Responds to Attempted Assassination of Trump
World leaders have condemned the attempted assassination of former U.S. President and Republican candidate for the upcoming November elections, Donald Trump. Euronews reports.
U.S. President Joe Biden condemned the attempt on Trump’s life: “I am relieved to hear that he is safe and well. I pray for him and his family. Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for protecting him. There is no place for such violence in America. Our nation must unite to condemn this,” Biden stated in his address.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the assassination attempt in a video message as a “terrible crime that can only be condemned.” He expressed confidence that America would overcome this challenge with dignity, wishing a swift recovery for Trump and strength and support for all those affected.
Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, pointed out that there is a climate of sowing hatred towards political opponents in the U.S.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was among the first to respond, stating that he and his wife are “shocked” by the attack on President Trump and are praying for his safety and swift recovery.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban wrote on the X social media platform that his thoughts and prayers are “with President Trump at this difficult time.”
“My thoughts are with President Donald Trump, who has been the target of an assassination attempt. A tragedy for our democratic nations. France shares the shock and outrage of the American people,” French President Emmanuel Macron wrote on social media.
The Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, who recently survived an assassination attempt himself, blamed the incident on Trump’s political opponents: “It’s a repeat of the same scenario. Trump’s political opponents are trying to silence him. When they fail, they incite the public until some unfortunate soul takes up arms,” he wrote.
The assassination attempt on Trump has also been condemned by, among others, the head of European diplomacy Josep Borrell, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and Moldovan President Maia Sandu.
Chinese leader Xi Jinping has expressed “support for Trump.”
Former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson called it a “miracle” that Donald Trump survived. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan vehemently condemned the assassination attempt on Trump, stating that Turkey will continue to support the U.S. as its ally.
The office of Argentine President Javier Milei referred to the incident as an “attack on democracy.”
