Maria Zakharova Comments on Armenian-American Peacekeeping Exercises in Armenia
Western representatives are involving Armenia in various formats of cooperation in the South Caucasus, primarily aimed against Russia. This was stated by Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, during a press briefing about the upcoming Armenian-American Eagle Partner 2024 peacekeeping exercises scheduled to take place from July 15 to 24 in Armenia.
According to the diplomat, these exercises result in nothing more than regret. They occur against the backdrop of Armenia's suspension of its participation in the CSTO and public attacks on the organization.
Whatever peaceful or humanitarian objectives are proclaimed by the West, it is clear that the main issue is to create a platform for geopolitical projects. The presence of Americans in the South Caucasus will only escalate the existing conflict potential in the region and create new dividing lines.
She noted that under the guise of these exercises, the Americans are imposing NATO standards on Armenia's armed forces, leading to a reconfiguration of the entire security system in Armenia. This will ultimately provide the West with additional leverage to influence Armenia's internal and foreign policies.
