Expert Assesses the Danger of World War III

The danger of World War III is growing today, and it could arise in Europe, where the West is trying to "undermine" Russia, said Sergey Karaganov, head of the Faculty of World Economy and World Politics at the Higher School of Economics, to RIA Novosti.

“Let me say right away that yes, the danger of World War III is increasing today. Where is it coming from? Of course, in Europe, since the main reason is the West's desperate attempt to undermine Russia,” he stated.

“That is why I insist today on the revival of the nuclear factor's role; nuclear weapons have played the role of a reliable guarantor for the past seven decades,” he added.

According to him, the existing “balance of fear” between Moscow and Washington must be restored. “Emphasis on nuclear weapons should not only be to protect Russia's national interests but also to maintain international peace,” Karaganov emphasized.

Russia has repeatedly stated that it does not desire a large war. According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, our country has experienced similar situations many times before, but the US itself declares Moscow a threat in its doctrines and acts accordingly, pulling neutral countries to its side.
