Azerbaijan Invites Armenia to Attend COP29 in Baku: Hajiyev

Azerbaijan has invited Armenia to participate in the COP29 summit scheduled to take place in Baku this November, as announced by Hikmet Hajiyev, assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, on Sunday, according to The National.

He told reporters that an official invitation has been sent to Yerevan. Official Yerevan has yet to respond to Hajiyev's statement.

COP29 is the session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Last December, as a goodwill gesture, Armenia had expressed its support for Azerbaijan's bid to host the event and withdrew its own candidacy, while Azerbaijan supported Armenia's candidacy for membership in the Bureau of the COP from the Eastern European group.

In June, the spokesperson for the Prime Minister commented on discussions regarding Nikol Pashinyan's potential visit to Baku and participation in the COP29 forum, stating that such a visit is not planned in the Prime Minister's work agenda.
