UK Defense Secretary Comes Under Fire During First Visit to Ukraine
The United Kingdom's new Defense Secretary, Jon Healey, came under rocket fire during his first official visit to Ukraine on July 7. This was reported by The Daily Mirror.
According to the publication, while negotiating with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Defense Minister Rustem Umerov in the city of Odesa, an air alert was declared, forcing the meeting participants to take shelter in the basement of one of the buildings. The report specifies that the attendees were able to leave the shelter at least half an hour later, once the signal to lift the air alert was given.
Healey was appointed head of the British defense ministry on July 5, following the victory of Keir Starmer's Labour Party in the UK parliamentary elections. Just two days later, he arrived in Odesa, where he announced that his country would supply Ukraine with 90 high-precision Brimstone missiles, 10 self-propelled AS-90 artillery systems, and a quarter of a million rounds of ammunition.
