Zakharova Assesses Britain's Elections

Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, has commented on the ongoing parliamentary elections in Great Britain by quoting Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland." The relevant post was shared on her Telegram channel.

On July 4, the Bureau of Democratic Institutions and Human Rights presented a report on the electoral process in Great Britain. According to Zakharova, the assessments are not reassuring, revealing serious violations and deficiencies in the kingdom's electoral system. She noted that the OSCE deliberately turns a blind eye to the flaws in British electoral legislation and refuses full monitoring of the election process.

Zakharova emphasized that "dozens of people" are unlikely to effectively control the entire electoral process. She stated that the "distortions of the actions of ODIHR" are quite demonstrative and remind one of double standards. She recalled how the West demands to send large missions to countries whose politics do not suit it. "As the Englishman Lewis Carroll said, 'It takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place.' It seems that this is precisely what the British electoral system is currently occupied with—trying to maintain the appearance of democracy," concluded the Russian Foreign Ministry representative.
