King Charles III Accepts Resignation of Rishi Sunak

King Charles III of the United Kingdom has accepted Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's resignation. This was reported by guardian.com. It was noted that Buckingham Palace has released an official statement saying: "The Honourable Rishi Sunak met with the King this morning and tendered his resignation as Prime Minister, which His Majesty has accepted."

Now, Sir Keir Starmer, the leader of the Labour Party who won the parliamentary elections, will visit Buckingham Palace to become the next Prime Minister. Starmer's Labour Party has secured a majority of the votes in the House of Commons from the results of the snap parliamentary elections, marking the end of 14 years of Conservative governance in the country. The counting of votes in all constituencies is still underway, but Labour has already officially won in 381 of them, ensuring a majority in the 650-seat chamber.

According to an exit poll released immediately after the voting concluded on Thursday evening, the Labour Party is projected to secure 410 seats. In third place are the Liberal Democrats with 61 mandates, followed by Nigel Farage's right-wing populist Reform UK party with 13 mandates.

In a brief speech after the results were announced, Starmer stated, "Change starts right here, as this is your democracy, your community, your future. You have voted. Now it is time for us to deliver on our promises."

Incumbent Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was also re-elected in his constituency of Richmond and Northallerton. However, he acknowledged that the Conservatives had lost and congratulated Starmer on his victory.

"Today, power will be transferred peacefully and orderly from hand to hand, with goodwill from all sides. This should give us all confidence in the stability and future of our country. The British people have delivered a sobering judgment today, and there is much to learn... I take responsibility for the failure," Sunak stated.

On Friday, Sunak and Starmer are scheduled to meet with King Charles III at Buckingham Palace.
