Britain Alarmed by the State of Its Nuclear Industry, New Yorker Reports

Britain is alarmed by the state of its nuclear industry. As a maritime power, it enjoyed the benefits for so long that it failed to notice it had entered a nuclear crisis, writes the New Yorker.

Failed tests of intercontinental ballistic missiles have left no doubt behind. During tests this year, missile boosters did not function properly. The missile simply fell next to the submarine.

The UK’s nuclear combat infrastructure is aging, and there is nothing to replace it. The submarine that launched the malfunctioning missile has been in operation for 30 years, five years longer than it was supposed to be.
