Palestine Responds to Armenia's Recognition of the State of Palestine
The office of Palestinian National Authority (PNA) President Mahmoud Abbas has expressed gratitude to Armenia in connection with its recognition of Palestinian statehood. This information was reported by local agency WAFA.
“Armenia’s wise step aligns with the program envisaging the peaceful coexistence of two states (Israeli and Palestinian). It is a strategic choice that supports international will and legitimacy,” the statement from the office noted.
The PNA thanked Armenia for this “brave and important decision,” considering it a significant step for strengthening bilateral ties as well as for peace and stability in the region.
Earlier, Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the country has recognized Palestinian statehood. Yerevan underscored its sincere interest in establishing peace and stability in the Middle East, particularly between the Israeli and Palestinian peoples.
Earlier this year, Palestine was recognized by Slovenia, Ireland, Spain, and Norway.
On October 7, 2023, the Hamas militant group launched an attack on Israel. In response, Israel began military operations against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, which continue to this day.
