Pashinyan Specifies When a Referendum on Territorial Issues May Occur

The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, during his visit to Syunik, mentioned in a meeting with the residents of Shinuhayr when a referendum regarding territorial issues might arise. He stated, “At some point, Armenia and Azerbaijan may discuss giving up 100 square kilometers each, but this must be done through a referendum.”

According to him, the borders that existed during the Soviet era are being restored at present, and it is possible that a time will come when Armenia and Azerbaijan reach a new agreement. “We are not establishing a new border with Azerbaijan; we are restoring the border that existed at the moment the Soviet Union collapsed. This principle is very important. Today we are saying the border passes where it does. We faced issues related to several houses in Kiran, but we do not want to deviate, because if you dismantle this construction somewhere, it will all collapse with a domino effect. It’s very important for me that you understand what we are doing and why we are doing it,” said Pashinyan.
