How the Residents of Kiran are to Access Agricultural Lands in Berkaber: The Ministry's Response

The authorities of Armenia have yet to discuss how the residents of the village of Kiran in Tavush will access agricultural lands located near the Berkaber reservoir. This is reported by Sputnik Armenia.

It should be noted that after the territories near the village of Kiran were handed over to Azerbaijan, Armenian farmers are losing the opportunity to access some of their fields. The road passes through the former village of Kherimli and will be under Azerbaijani control.

In response to the media's inquiry, officials from the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures stated, "The issue you raised can be addressed after the delimitation and demarcation process, after which the construction of new roads will be discussed as necessary."

It is important to mention that this area contains about 60 hectares of land owned by the village (of which approximately 45 hectares are cultivated). The villagers proposed to exchange this land for the bridge and the closest area to the village that would be handed over to Baku; however, their proposal was rejected by the authorities.

Recall that within the framework of the delimitation with Azerbaijan, a part of the Kiran area—two houses, a bridge, a section of the interstate road to Georgia, and preliminary data indicates more than 50 plots of land—are being handed over to Azerbaijan. Furthermore, the new border will be located just a few dozen meters from the new school building.
