Georgian Prime Minister Sets Ambitious Goal for EU Membership by 2030

Georgia has set an ambitious goal to become a member of the European Union by 2030. This announcement was made by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili during a speech at a reception in Berlin dedicated to Georgia's Independence Day.

"We have a very important national issue — to join the European Union. We aim to make Georgia an EU member state by 2030. Today, our children performed the EU anthem in an extraordinary manner, and I am confident that the future of those children is in the EU," Garibashvili stated.

According to him, support from Georgia's partners and friendly countries is crucial to achieving this goal. In early June, Georgia implemented the 'Transparency of Foreign Influence' law. Despite mass protests and warnings from the EU and the United States, the Georgian Parliament adopted the law.

At the same time, the EU has criticized Georgia following the adoption of the foreign agents’ law, threatening to take measures due to the enactment of the law and stating that they might refuse Georgia's EU membership. Western politicians have claimed that this law contradicts European principles and values.
