Kazakhstan Implements Law Banning Import and Sale of Vapes
Amendments to healthcare legislation in Kazakhstan that prohibit the import, production, and sale of vapes (electronic cigarettes) have come into effect as of Thursday. These changes were approved by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at the end of April.
The legislation defines a ban on the import and distribution of vapes as well as the advertising of non-smoking tobacco products, heated tobacco products, tobacco for hookahs, hookah mixtures, tobacco heating systems, electronic consumption systems, flavorings, and liquids for these products. Criminal liability is established for the importation and sale of vapes.
The use of brand elements and names in the advertising of products known as non-smoking tobacco products and vapes is also prohibited, along with their advertising at various events.
Additionally, the new legislation introduces mandatory professional insurance for medical workers. Each medical organization will enter into a contract with an insurance company for this purpose. A pre-judicial dispute resolution mechanism is also being implemented. In the event of harm to a patient's life and health due to medical errors, complaints are proposed to be reviewed by an independent expert commission. Its conclusion will serve as the basis for the insurance payment to the patient.
