Citizens of Armenia, Russia, and Ukraine Arrested in Germany on Suspicion of Espionage
Three foreign nationals have been arrested in Germany on suspicion of espionage, according to the German public prosecutor's office. The arrests occurred on June 19 in Frankfurt am Main.
The individuals apprehended include Arman S., a citizen of Russia; Robert A., a citizen of Ukraine; and Vardges I., a citizen of Armenia. A court on June 20 ordered their detention.
The suspects are believed to have been working for a foreign intelligence service. According to prosecutors, they arrived in Germany to gather information about an individual from Ukraine who was in the country. To that end, they went to a café in Frankfurt am Main on June 19, where the individual was supposed to be present.
No names or further details have been disclosed regarding the individual in question. Frankfurt am Main is one of the cities hosting matches for this year's UEFA European Championship, which is being held in Germany. However, there were no games scheduled at the Frankfurt stadium on June 19; matches took place on June 17, June 20, and are set for June 23.
