Zelensky States When He Expects EU Accession Negotiations to Begin
Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that Kyiv has fulfilled all the prerequisites necessary to practically start the negotiations for EU membership. The state leader emphasized that it is now time for the West to deliver on its promises.
The President of Ukraine, Zelensky, arrived in Berlin today to participate in the third conference on Ukraine's recovery. During his speech at the opening of the event, the politician noted that he expects the negotiations regarding EU membership to commence by the end of June.
According to the Ukrainian leader, all the prerequisites for this have been met. Therefore, the negotiation framework should be established in June, and the accession talks should begin. Zelensky stressed that this way Europe will demonstrate that it keeps its promises and that neither pressure nor external manipulations can break it.
“The European Union should be for all Europeans, without exception. Every nation that shares the common values of all of Europe and wants to live as we do, in peace, deserves to be included. Ukrainians are such a nation. Just like our neighbors in Moldova, the people of Georgia, the Balkan states, and others who respect Europe, freedom, and the rule of law. A free Belarus will also come to Europe in due time,” Zelensky stated in his speech.
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, shares the same view as the Ukrainian president. The official stated that Ukraine has indeed taken necessary steps to begin EU accession negotiations and therefore fully deserves for them to commence by the end of June.
